Cannot convert value 'X' of type Text to type Number.
DAX tried arithmetic or an implicit conversion on a text value that isn't a clean number.
Why it happens
- A column that holds numbers is typed as Text.
- A stray character — currency symbol, space, thousands separator, or a non-breaking space.
- Locale mismatch on the decimal separator (comma vs dot).
How to fix it
- Fix the column's data type in Power Query — this is almost always the right layer, not DAX.
- If you must convert in DAX, clean first:
VALUE ( TRIM ( SUBSTITUTE ( Sales[AmountText], "$", "" ) ) ). - Confirm the file/report locale matches the data's decimal and thousands separators.
Triggers it
Total = SUM ( Sales[AmountText] ) -- AmountText is typed Text
Fix
Amount = VALUE ( TRIM ( Sales[AmountText] ) )
